Roll
diagonally two sheets of newspaper together to form a
thick 'rope'. |

2 inches from the top, give the rope a slight twist to
form the neck of the doll; secure the twist with masking
tape. The top 2 inches will be the head. |

Cut
the remaining rope to the length you desire to form the
doll's torso. |

Wrap
masking tape around the head and torso of the doll to
add strength to its form. |

Take
four shorter lengths of newspaper and roll into tight
ropes to form the arms and legs of the doll. |

Wrap
tape along the length of all (newspaper) 'rope' to hold
its shape and cut the legs and arms to an appropriate
length for the proportions of the doll. |

Secure
the legs and arms to the torso with masking tape. PARENT
- follow the instructions on the packet for mixing papier-mâché. |

Apply
three to four layers of papier-mâché to entire surface
of the doll. |

Roll some papier-mâché between your thumb and index finger
to form tight strips, and place the strips on the head
of the doll for hair. |

Cover
with thin strips of newspaper. ALTERNATIVELY: glue on
yarn for hair when doll is completely finished and varnished. |

Let
the doll dry overnight. |

the doll is completely dry, sand its surface lightly with
fine sandpaper. |

Apply
two coats of primer to the doll. |

Paint
the doll with poster paints. |

Seal
the dry paint with two coats of clear varnish. |
